let me say for the record that driving with three under two is a serious handicap (not to mention the sheer amount of crap one needs to pack just to travel with three babies is shocking - at times i was afraid to open the hatch for fear everything would tumble out!). what should have been a 3 1/2 hour trip wound up taking us closer to 5. we stopped countless times to sooth crying babies, change diapers, etc. etc. needless to say by the time we got to the beach house i was on edge.

after unloading the mountain of equipment out of our car, pitching three pack n plays and coming to realize i forgot my shoes and camera (ughh!) we settled in for some 4th of july fun! we had a great bbq dinner (tri tip, corn, watermelon and potato salad) followed by a long soak in the spa with a glass of wine. we were all exhausted and in bed before fireworks even started - we had a good laugh at just how much our lives have changed since having babies!
we spent tuesday in monterey with our dear family friend margie who took us on a fantastic tour of the aquarium. marcus loved the wave wall, open ocean exhibit and the touch pools - what kid doesn't love to touch sea cucumbers and starfish?
obsessed with the fish! |

when we were done margie had us over for a wonderful dinner of homemade bbq beef, coleslaw, jello salad and a yummy cookie cheesecake dessert. we headed back to the beach house only to find out we took the wrong key (i will save my meltdown story for another blog post) and were locked out in pitch darkness at 10pm with three screaming babies. paul and rach did eventually come to our rescue but not until almost midnight.
the rest of the trip we stayed close to home.
we enjoyed a beach day in cayucos and discovered the most a-m-a-z-i-n-g brown butter sea salt cookies and smoked fish tacos.

we ate olallieberry pies and read about the gruffalo with his orange eyes and poisonous nose wart
we played swords in the forest with driftwood and walked along moonstone beach at sunset.

now that we are home we are in the full throws of packing for a move to thousand oaks...yes we are moving!! could things get any crazier around here?
once we get settled i will be back for more posts...hope everyone is staying cool in the heat wave!!
xoxo
