cloth diapering 101

ok so i am going to break down our cloth diapering system. there are many approaches to cloth diapering but we find that the bum genius AIO (all in one) system works best for us. some people may think we are crazy (or too granola) to do cloth diapers but with three in diapers it is not only more cost effective but easier on the environment. besides who can resist a cute baby butt in a cloth diaper??

we use the bum genius 4.0 snap closure diapers. they fit snug, absorb well and we rarely have blow outs! the inserts get stuffed inside the water proof lining and !viola! the diaper is ready to be put on. perhaps the best thing about this diaper is the fact that it grows with your baby from newborn until potty trained so you don't need different sizes!

next are the bio liners by grovia. these come in handy once the #2's become more formed...

for washing we use tiny bubbles soap. we wash using our pre-wash/sanitary/2nd rinse cycle (in that order) and the diapers come out clean and fresh! of course to make it easier we seperate the diapers and inserts right after we are done changing the babies so we don't have to sift through piles of stinkys when wash day come... pee yeww!

Accessories

we use planet wise wet bags (for our trips away from home)

and their pail liners for our pails

their bags do not, i repeat do not leak and they resist odors! these bags are reusable and washable. the wet bags are also great for trips to the lake or beach!

last but not least we put the dirties in a standard diaper pail

cloth diapering is not hard and the benefits are endless. they are less expensive in the long run and better for the environment to name a few. check out the real diaper association website for all the benefits to cloth diapering :)

I am so proud of you for putting your babies in cloth diapers! All 4 of you sported the good 'ole 'Penny's' pre-folded cotton diapers. It saved us on our budget not to mention the environment and gave you sweet 'bubble butts' for cute-as-you-can-get pictures, lol! As a nurse and childbirth educator, I encouraged and taught cloth diapering pointers including the recipe for washing them. It was the thing to do during that time . . . the environmental movement was just starting, and we were also looking for ways to keep me at home. So, it wasn't difficult, just a mind set. . . .
